How to Apply for a Scholarship
Please request a Grace & Joy Scholarship and Enrollment application by writing a letter describing your child’s financial situation and why s/he would be a good match for Winnarainbow (artistic talents, interest in the circus arts, etc.) Please send this letter by March 11th to:
1301 Henry Street
Berkeley, CA 94709
(or email to timmy@campwinnarainbow.org)
After we receive the letter, we will mail the application to you, which needs to be returned by the end of March. Depending on availability, we may be able to accept campers outside of these time guidelines who are recommended to us by social service agencies. If you have any questions, please contact Timmy Yuen at
(510) 525-4304 or email timmy@campwinnarainbow.org.
Selection Criteria
We strive to have a camp that is balanced economically, racially and culturally. In particular, we seek to grant scholarships to children with creative abilities and talents who have few means of developing these skills and could not otherwise afford to attend camp at the full fee. Approximately two-thirds of the scholarship funds go to campers who we have been recruited or are recommended by social service/non-profit agencies that serve disadvantaged or at-risk children.
Income Guidelines
Camp Winnarainbow uses the Federal Government's USDA Summer Food Service Program income guidelines in order to determine eligibility for Grace & Joy funding. All applicants for a Grace & Joy Fund scholarship must be at or below the guidelines in order to be considered for funding. Income is verified by a copy of your family's most recent tax returns.
| Family Size | Yearly Income |
| 1 member | $20,036 |
| 2 members | $26,955 |
| 3 members | $33,874 |
| 4 members | $40,793 |
| 5 members | $47,712 |
| 6 members | $54,631 |
| 7 members | $61,550 |
| 8 members | $68,469 |
| For each additional family member, add: $6,919 | |
Co-Payment
Our scholarship program is a partnership between the camper families, the donors and Camp Winnarainbow. Copayment is required from all recipients unless your camper is homeless or at extreme risk. Typically, copayments have ranged from 10-65% of the normal camp fee. The more you are able to offer, the better Camp is able to stretch its funds to admit as many children as possible.
