Black Lives Matter

Dear Winnarainbow Community,

We are writing to you in light of the recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and countless others. These deaths are situated in a long legacy of systemic racism in this country, and we are enraged that more black lives have been taken at the hands of white supremacy and police brutality. This system MUST change. NOW. And we must all take action to change it. We are inspired by and stand in solidarity with the thousands of people taking to the streets – led by young people of color – to protest and stand up against white supremacy and the systemic killing of Black people.

From our inception 45 years ago, Camp Winnarainbow has been built on the mission of “putting our good where it does the most” and creating a world that works and serves everyone. To create a world that works for everyone, we must fight for a world in which Black Lives Matter.

Right now we are thinking deeply about how we can do more. It is essential that we show up for, support, and serve our Black community members and take direct action in the fight against systemic racism. We encourage us all, as a Winnarainbow family, to join together in examining how Camp Winnarainbow, as an organization, affects change and fights to dismantle white supremacy. We need to ask ourselves what we are tangibly, concretely doing to affect Change. This is not a quick conversation. We want to dig deep, hear from all of us, and never, ever stop fighting for a world without racism and violence.

We will keep communicating and organizing ways for us to engage in this important work, even if we have to stay physically distant. Please reach out with your thoughts, your experience and ways you would like to be a part of Camp Winnarainbow’s continued commitment to fight for Liberation.

In love and solidarity,

Your Camp Winnarainbow Family
