Financial Aid / Scholarship

The Financial Aid/Scholarship Program for 2023 is now closed. It will re-open 12/1/2023 for 2024.

Winnarainbow deeply values equity and inclusion and strives to make Camp possible for every family. We understand that families are working hard to provide valuable experiences for their kids, especially after the challenging years of COVID. Every family comes from different circumstances and has differing levels of access. As a non-profit organization, we only charge tuition that reflects the actual cost of Camp. Any of our families may request a zero-interest time-payment plan to finance tuition. For those families that require more financial assistance to attend, Camp is funded by generous donors who realize the value of the Camp Winnarainbow experience, and who donate to help make Camp possible for everyone. Camp Winnarainbow especially encourages BIPOC families to apply for assistance.

The chart below is used as a guide to determine eligibility for granting financial aid. To calculate if your family would qualify, choose the number of people that your yearly income supports (top row) and find your income on the left. In the grid, ‘eligible’ means you may be eligible to request aid. ‘Ineligible’ means that we would likely not be able to offer you financial aid. BUT, if you need more financial flexibility, you can always request a zero-interest time payment plan to spread monthly payments (even beyond May 1st). If you have any questions please call our office at 510.525.4304 or email osayande@campwinnarainbow.org.

*Income is based on your adjusted gross income (AGI) from your last income tax filing. (The 2022 AGI amount is on Line 11 on the 2022 Form 1040.)

If you have a TANF, SNAP, or FDPIR case number, you are automatically eligible to apply for aid.

**NOTE: If you want to be screened to receive financial aid, do NOT register your camper through the online system. Please follow the steps below.

Selection Process

The purpose of our financial aid/scholarship program is to assist families to attend who would not otherwise have the financial means to come to Camp Winnarainbow. Camp celebrates diversity and inclusion and works to build an equitable community of creative fun-loving kids!

To help select campers from a worthy and diverse applicant pool, a seasoned committee of Camp alumni and administrators convene to review applications. This screening committee grants financial aid based on a family’s need and availability. Your camper’s personal story, as included in the application, is very important even if your child has been to Camp previously. Their story helps the committee get to know your camper and understand your family situation. You and your camper’s authentic voice in this process is vitally important.

The number of financial aid enrollments that are granted is based on the funds we are able to raise each year.

We encourage families to apply from every race, ethnicity, national origin, ability, gender identity, religion, political belief, familial or parental status, sexual orientation, economic status, and culture.

Co-Payment

Our financial aid program is made possible as a partnership between camper families, fund donors, and Camp Winnarainbow. We ask families to offer a co-payment amount on the aid application. The more you are able to offer, the better Camp is able provide access to children from all backgrounds.

How to Apply

Our financial aid application window is now closed for 2023 and will re-open for 2024 on December 1. Requests for financial aid are made between December 1 – March 15 through our online application form. NOTE: If you want to apply to receive financial aid, do NOT register your camper through the online system. Please submit a detailed personal statement to provide context for your family’s situation, and to provide our screening committee with information about your camper. After February 15, when the aid application closes, our screening committee will review applications and make aid offers.

If you are not initially selected, we will place your application on a waitlist. In the event pre-selected families decline their aid and withdraw their application to attend, we will inform you directly. We will contact you if we need any additional information.

Application screening will begin in late February and we will notify families of grants offered during March and April.

NOTE: If you want to apply to receive financial aid, do NOT register your camper through the online system.
